Your rights as a photographer

I saw this in the independent and thought it might be useful to show this, having being asked the other day, while in London why I was taking a picture with an I Phone
by two community officers. It was not any of their business and know I my rights, I walked on without further ado, but its pretty distressing if asked when all you are doing is enjoying your hobby

Stop & search & photos: Know your rights

* If police stop and search you, the first thing you should ask is on what grounds they are conducting the search and under what powers.

* Police are able to conduct searches under a number of different pieces of legislation but they usually use either the Public Order Act, the Criminal Justice Act or under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

* Unless you are stopped while driving a car, you do NOT have to give your name or address.

* Police officers are obliged to ask for your given ethnicity. Once again, it is up to you whether you choose to answer or not.

* If police use Section 44 of the Terrorism Act they are entitled to view any images you have taken but they are NOT allowed to delete them. They can only do so with a court order.

* Under Section 58a of the Terrorism Act, police are only allowed to stop a photographer taking pictures of officers if they reasonably suspect the photos are intended to be used in connection with terrorism.

* Whether you are stopped and searched, or merely stopped and accounted for, the police officer should hand you a record of your stop.

Stormy Weather

Roxi and I went early doors down to Eastney. The power of nature is magnificent. I love the sea and it was really being mean this morning. Looks like the transmitter base is coming down too.

For the photographers, 3 exposures handheld ( yep ) processed in PM and LR3 beta

Advice when booking a Church

When getting married at a church I would strongly advise both the Bride and Groom to check with the priest what his/her views are on photography during the service.

Some priests will not allow any photography to take place during the wedding service. This means that you will miss out on those special moments during the service like giving of the rings, the little glances between the bride and groom, the first steps as husband and wife, the kiss, the tears of emotion and the confetti of course !

I don't think that is fair, and you should insist that it is allowed. A good photographer will not be a hindrance to the service and will be very discreet. When you pay to hire a church, the church is entering into a legal contract to provide you with said service as stated between both parties so make crystal exactly what you want on the big day and what access and pictures you expect.

This ban on photograhy is nothing to do with the church or any church guidlines this is purely down to the priests own discretion. So please check as early as possible when booking the church that photography access will be granted clearly stating what you want on your wedding day.

Thanks to Digital Dennis for these good words. Any photographers that wish to contribute to the list of and Churches that ban photogrpahy, let us know.
